Welcome to the Grand Traverse District
We are a district made up of 67 churches; starting all the way up north at Indian River then south to Charlevoix, Empire, Manistee and ending at Hart and Mears on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Then inland to Leroy, Cadillac, Kalkaska and Mancelona and every United Methodist church in between, all west of I-75.
Our vision is to “Connect, Inspire, Equip, Repeat”.
We would love to have you join us at any one of the Grand Traverse District churches.
“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.22And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.” Mark 2:21-22 (NRSV)

Gaylord First UMC: 215 S Center Ave.
This will be a day of celebration and new beginnings. There will be time for getting acquainted with each other and celebrating our faith as we come together to worship! We will hold our first business meeting for District 2. Our agenda will include nominations for establishing our basic structure as guided by the Book of Discipline. We will affirm:
The Vision Team
The Lay Leader(s)
The District Committee on Ministry
The District Board of Church and Location
The Mission and Ministry Team
The Superintendency Committee
We will be voting on how much each church will give towards district ministry shares/apportionments in 2019 as we affirm a budget for District 2.
We will vote on a name for the new District.
Refreshments will be available.
If you would like to serve on one of the above committees or would like to offer your ideas or help as we establish the new District, please contact Anita Hahn or Jill Haney at the Grand Traverse District Office.
This is a day of new beginning as we seek to poise ourselves to equip the local church with strong pastoral and lay leadership to transform the world for Jesus Christ!
